Una Martin is Professor of Clinical Pharmacology at the University of Birmingham and leads the Hypertension Service at University Hospital Birmingham. Research highlights have included the influence of ethnicity on blood pressure measurement, the relationship of inter-arm blood pressure measurements to ambulatory readings and the difficulty of treating elderly patients to target because of adverse drug reactions. Her input to undergraduate teaching in therapeutics included the development of a “Prescribers’ Licence”, that preceded the National Prescribing Assessment. She delivers a postgraduate module in hypertension and is responsible for Clinical Pharmacology training in the West Midlands as Chair of the Specialist Training Committee. She was Programme Director of the NIHR/Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility, Birmingham, from 2011-2015. She led the application for Athena Swan status in the Medical School, achieving a Silver award in 2014. In 2015 she was appointed Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Equalities at the University.
